Modern London Basement Garden, W2, London, UK

A modern London basement garden with a ‘South of France’ twist, rear courtyard and front entrance

This modern London basement garden has a South of France twist, to reflect where the Client, who is in fashion and cosmetics, was born. The garden comprises the entrance stairwell and rear courtyard. Soft verdant planting with dominates the design, while antique table and chairs sit upon a rustic sandstone paved area on pedestals in a modern design. This modern London basement garden design creates a space and place that fits in with the Client’s aspirations. To escape the hustle and bustle of London. A living green wall transforms the far wall, which is now visible from the kitchen and living room. Subtle lighting with Edison-style bulbs creates warmth and a restful space to entertain. A French plancha grille finishes off the design. Additional string lights with Edison bulbs add to the party vibe.

The front entrance is currently reached via a black wrought iron curved staircase. A large metal cupboard under the stairs is turned into a useable storage space, while an awkward alcove becomes a false light well to add more light to the basement area. Azulejo tiles and lots of shade-loving plants. A canopy covers guests as they stand outside the front door. The staircase is softened with composite wood. Over-sized planters filled with shade-loving plants welcome you to the door.
