Arts and Crafts garden split into multiple areas

Arts and Crafts gardens are all about handmade materials, with vistas, places to sit, abundant borders in a cottage-style, with accent plants and hedges to form shapes and define spaces. The garden is mainly laid to lawn with a small copse to one side. As the clients use the side door all of the time, the front door becomes the back door, opening out onto a terrace of handmade terracotta tiles with handmade metal railings depicting twining plants. Circular steps lead you down on to the lawn, with two sweeping arches of yew to focus the view of the valley beyond. A simple statement plant, a Magnolia tree, sits in the centre. To the sides of the property are two smaller gardens. One is a gravel garden with a central water feature, enclosed. This creates separate rooms within the garden, which fits in with the Arts and Crafts garden style. On the opposite side of the house is a large hole. This is re-purposed into a bog garden with a water rill, bog plants and a brick and wooden pillar pergola. Slightly higher is a separate seating area for the last rays of sunshine. As the terrace starts to blur into the garden and copse, a natural winding path leads you to an additional bench under the trees.

A gap in the hedge leads onto a new vegetable garden, while hidden from sight is a separate area where reclaimed sleepers create a stepped bench. A central fire pit adds a further dimension to the garden.
