Tropical garden inspired by Malaysia

Tropical garden inspired by Malaysia. This is such an exciting garden to design. Both the client and I want to create a tropical garden that reminds them of where they were born, Malaysia. The five elements are important to the client, and water is a key component. The client keeps tropical fish. Planting is lush and verdant. Many of the client’s own pots and light fixings, which were brought over from Malaysia. These are incorporated into the design. The design is very formal and geometric, with strong walls clad in granite stone. A wooden pergola adds height, with a focal point at the far end. In order to show off the pots intricate nooks have been created in the walls. And a beautifully intricate urn has been turned into an additional water feature. The entire garden, just over a third of an acre, has a slight slope to it. Leading away from the house, is a sunken entertaining area, reached by ‘floating’ stepping stones across the ‘fish’ water feature. This area is large enough for a party of 100+ people, and has for palm trees for natural shade. Looking out across St Margaret’s Bay, surrounded by verdant planting, reminds the client of Malaysia.
